Defence Gateway Two Factor Authentication (2FA) methods

Modified on Wed, 11 Mar at 4:08 PM

The Defence Gateway uses email or authenticator for their 2FA.

It is not currently possible to use SMS.

Email

Your recovery email address can be a personal email or @mod.gov.uk one.

You must be able to access the email address selected.

Do not use an armymail or cadetmail address as your recovery email, as you will not be able to access this in the event of being locked out of your Defence Gateway account.

Recovery emails must be unique and cannot be re-used across multiple Defence Gateway accounts.

If you are accessing the Defence Gateway via MoDnet you are not required to authenticate as this is already marked as a trusted device.

Authenticator Apps

The following apps have been tested by the Defence Gateway Team:

  • OTP
  • Google Authenticator

There are other apps you can download, however these have not been tested by the Defence Gateway Technical Team.

Authy is not compatible.
